Pine marten scat transect training
Almost 100 people attended Vincent Wildlife Trust's online Pine Marten Scat Transect Training webinar, led by pine marten expert Dr Johnny Birks.
The session introduced participants to the science and practice of scat transect surveys, covering pine marten ecology, scat identification, survey techniques and how survey results can be used to monitor populations. The webinar attracted volunteers, wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists from across the UK.
The training is the first step in a wider pine marten scat transect programme. In-person scat transect training sessions are taking place this summer, with VWT volunteers already signed up and attending.
Volunteers are being sought to help survey pine marten scat transects in Brechfa Forest, Hafren Forest and surrounding Mid Wales, the Tweed Valley and Solway Forests. The information collected will help support ongoing pine marten conservation and monitoring work.
