Great news —
Vincent Wildlife Trust is now on TikTok!

Vincent Wildlife Trust (VWT) already uses social media platforms as a communication tool to help raise awareness of its scientific research and conservation projects. Now, it has branched out into TikTok. With more than 1.5 billion monthly active users (2024 figures) across the world and with the majority of these being under the age of 30, this new platform will help us to reach a new audience.

Studies have shown that there is a ‘teenage dip’ in young people’s relationship with nature. Their interest and passion for the natural world reaches a low around their mid-teens, before slowly beginning to increase in their twenties. However, in the face of the climate and biodiversity crisis, we need young people to be engaged more than ever. Another study has shown a positive link between ‘nature connectedness’ and environmentally-related social media content. By seeing regular posts about local and global wildlife, there is an increase in knowledge and appreciation of it, which may help people to form positive connections to the natural world.

As well as sharing work on TikTok, we are also using the platform to share information on some of Britain’s native mammals using content such as ‘Fun facts about pine martens’ and ‘How to identify a polecat’.
